Slate is a metamorphic rock composed of clay or volcanic ash. It is an extremely dense stone, known for its low rate of water absorption. Because of this, it is a traditional roofing material. In addition to roofing, slate has been used in modem times for countertops and flooring due to its durability, fireproof qualities, and range of natural colors.
